Join us for WAWA's first day long symposium with a guest demonstrator, Elvie Jackson, who will demonstrate the turning of a Natural edge Hollow form, hollowed through a narrow opening, plus additional projects.  This will be an A to Z presentation on designing and producing a hollow form turning, from wood selection, design consideration, mounting techniques, Turning the outside of the form, hollowing and finishing the project.  Along the way,  Elvie will discuss tool selection and tool technique, alternate tool choices and alternate techniques.  This will be an opportunity for attendees to see the creation and execution  of a complete project outside of our usual monthly meeting time constraints.  Elvie will also discuss and demonstrate sharpening of tools as part of his demonstartion.

After the first project is finished, Elvie will demonstrate additional turnings, including working with burls, and will entertain questions about turning methods and technique from the audience.  Come with your interest and questions.

Elvie Jackson

Elvie has been turning since 1994 after training with Bill Johnson, A nationally respected N.C. turner. Elvie began his professional career as an Electrical Engineer working with Carolina Power and Light where a fellow employee piqued his interest in turning when he brought in an oak burl bowl. In 1985 Elvie started a side business, Jackson's Tree Service. Elvie decided to devote his full time to turning and his Tree Service business in 1995.

Elvie is a member of the Wood Turner's Guild of N.C. and the AAW. He has continued his growth as a turner through symposiums and club meetings.

Come one, come all, bring a friend! This will be the first in what we hope will become a regular event for WAWA, a series of day long presentations by North Carolina, Nationally and internationally renouned professional turners.  Let's make it a great kick off.
